<p>The invention establishes an L2VPN (virtual private network) between access nodes 102,108 via nodes 104,106 of a core network. An adjacency between access and core nodes is determined. Then, a mapping between a VLAN ID (virtual LAN) and a core network I-SID (service instance identifier) is decided by the access node and forwarded to the core node. It may be transmitted as an IS-IS (intermediate system intermediate system) TLV (type length value) message. The core node may distribute I-SID advertisements to the core network and suitable network paths may be calculated. An L2VPN may be established using the VLAN ID and the I-SID. The VPN may use MAC-in MAC tunnelling across the core network. The core node may prevent routing messages from other core nodes from reaching the access node. The core devices may be backbone edge bridges (BEB).</p> |
