<p>A system comprises an x-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer 52 and a sample holder 3 for the spectrometer, wherein the holder comprises an electrically conductive synthetic diamond electrode 4 (Fig 2a) providing a front surface on which chemical species can be electrodeposited from a solution 64, an ohmic contact 8 (Fig 2a) disposed on a rear surface of the electrode with an electrical connector 10, and wherein the spectrometer comprises an XRF sample stage 58 to receive the sample holder 3, an x-ray source 54 to apply an excitation beam to the chemical species electrodeposited on the electrode, an x-ray detector 60 to receive x-rays emitted from the chemical species on the front surface of the electrode, and a processor 62 configured to generate x-ray fluorescence spectroscopic data based on the x-rays received by the x-ray detector.</p> |
