An infrared signal receiver capable of performing gains held depending on a gain hold signal applied from the outside is disclosed. When it is determined not necessary to change the gains by analyzing the formed output signal and carrier signal, the gain hold signal is activated. The activated gain hold signal holds the charging operation of an automatic gain controller. Therefore, the gain condition is maintained. When the gain hold signal is inactivated, the automatic gain controller generates the change of a gain control signal with the charging operation.
