The invention relates to a method comprising the steps of: a) collecting dust by filtering (12) the gases leaving a scrap smelting furnace; b) preparing (14) a mixture containing a first fraction of dust collected in step (a), a carbon source and a source of oxide of sodium and silicon, such as sodium metasilicate; c) preparing (16) briquettes by means of the pressure compacting of the mixture obtained in step (b); d) feeding the briquettes into the scrap furnace and pyrometallurgically processing (10) the briquettes with the scrap; and e) performing hydrometallurgical processing (20-34) for dissolution of the chlorides and fluorides of a second fraction of dust collected in step (a) but not used for the mixture in step (b).
