PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation elevator whose operation can be restarted in a short time without being influenced even when a large shake is caused in a building in the event of a large earthquake. SOLUTION: An elevator frame in which an earthquake sensor 17 is fixed to the base is disposed in a hoistway 3 through a base isolation device 7, and a damping device 8 is provided between a lateral side of the base and a sidewall 3B of the hoistway. A guide rail is provided inside the elevator frame 4. A plurality of landing side doors are provided at positions facing an elevator landing doorway 20 on each floor, respectively, and the elevator landing doorway 20 of each floor and the landing side door facing it are connected by an extendable passage 21 that follows the relative displacement. A seismic ground motion is suppressed and made small by the base isolation device 7 and the damping device 8, and the operation can be restarted by a simple safety confirmation test without requiring an inspection by maintenance staff, thereby protecting lives of residents of a high-rise building.
