[Also in Division H1] A variable reactance plasma tube, for frequency modulating a microwave oscillator 200, comprises a low pressure gas filling, a cathode 102, a grid 104, and an anode 105 formed by a re-entrant cavity resonator 150. Microwave energy is coupled to, and extracted from, the resonator coaxial portion, e.g. via windows 152, 153, and a variable voltage between cathode and anode varies the resonant frequency of the resonator. The plasma resonator is connected to an external load and to the resonator of a reflex klystron oscillator 200 via waveguide sections 6, 7 provided with capacitive phase adjusting posts 155, 157. |
