A device can be configured to receive data in a substantially continuous manner and to present the data to a user. The data can be presented to a user at different presentation rates including at least a first presentation rate and a second presentation rate. For example, the device can be configured to present the data at the first presentation rate until a threshold condition is satisfied, and then to present the data at the second presentation rate. According to one embodiment, the first presentation rate can be a rate slower than a rate which is normally used depending on the type of data received, thereby enabling the device to buffer some of the received data in a device memory. Once the amount of buffered data reaches a threshold level in the memory, the device can increase to the second presentation rate such as the presentation rate typically used depending on the type of data received.
