PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functionalized polyvinylamine that provides paper or paper board having improved wet and/or dry strength by reaction of polyvinylamine and at least one dialdehyde.SOLUTION: The present invention is directed to compositions comprising a cellulose reactive functionalized polyvinylamine first adduct, compositions comprising combinations of the cellulose reactive functionalized polyvinylamine first adduct and cellulose reactive functionalized polyvinylamide (polyacrylamide) second adduct, methods for preparing blends of the first adduct and the second adduct and methods of increasing the wet or dry strength of paper by incorporating the adducts into the paper furnish or coating paper or paper board with the adducts. |
