PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber splicing method that enables a refractive index matching agent to be restrained from penetrating into holes and an end face interval between optical fibers to be restrained from increasing, and to provide a refractive index matching agent used therefor.SOLUTION: Two hole structure optical fibers 9 and 10 are connected to each other through a refractive index matching agent 4 in a mechanical splice being an optical fiber connector. The respective hole structure optical fibers 9 and 10 have a core 1 and a cladding 2 surrounding the circumference of the core 1, and there are, in the cladding 2, periodically formed a plurality of holes 3 so as to surround the core 1. The refractive index matching agent 4 is made up of an oily refractive index matching agent 5 and a solid refractive index matching agent 6. The refractive index of the refractive index matching agent 5 is equal to or less than that of the cladding 2 in the hole structure optical fibers. The refractive index of the refractive index matching agent 6 is higher than that of the cladding 2 in the hole structure optical fibers. |
