A dispenser of tape 26, Fig. 6, has motor 12 driving via chain 18 a feed wheel 22 between which and a lower pinch roller the tape passes to be fed through a spring loaded guillotine cutter 54 and under a feeler 38 carried by a pendulous hub 40 loose on spindle 16 and prevented by the tape from dropping into a hole 36. Spindle 16, Figs. 6 and 7, drives via wheel 74 and belt 78 a wheel 76 which drives via a further belt a wheel 84 having a clutch roller 90 carried by a pendulum 86 pivoted on the axis 80 of wheel 76. The bottom 92 of the pendulum engages a spring centralized rod 96 movable by solenoids 102, 104 at its ends so that, on depressing one of two switches 150, 152, a solenoid swings the clutch roller 90 into engagement with one of the measuring wheels 106, 108. The latter have grooves 130 in which pegs 128 may be adjustably positioned by dial knobs so that the end of the groove follows the peg under the influence of torsion springs associated with each measuring wheel and rotation of a measuring wheel by the clutch roller is predetermined by the positioning of its peg whereby, after the predetermined length of tape has been fed, a pin 136 on the opposite face of the measuring wheel shifts a bar 140 which actuates switch 142 to stop the motor and to de-energize a solenoid 64 so that the spring loaded cutter severs the tape. On removing the tape the feeler moves down and via links 42, 46, recloses switch 142 to restart the apparatus. A stepping switch is provided whereby a sequence of long and short tapes are dispensed, while the dispensing may be automatic or controlled by two push buttons for different lengths or one set length. |
