The present invention relates to a method and terminal device for implementing discontinuous receiving, comprising: a terminal device entering a continuous activation state after receiving discontinuous receiving configuration parameter information carried in an RRC reconfiguration message; exiting the continuous activation state after a predetermined time period; and then entering a discontinuous receiving state according to the discontinuous receiving configuration parameter information. The technical solution ensures that data transferred by a network side to the terminal device can be reliably received by the terminal device in the process of configuring DRX configuration parameters, thereby efficiently improving the reliability of data transfer between the terminal device and the network side.
