By dispensing with the usual lubricant fittings which prevent the escape of fluids out of lubricant passages of links in a conveyer chain for a hydrostatic cooker, vapour developed by aqueous fluid trapped in the lubricant is allowed to escape without forcing lubricant out of the passages. A chain 10 has rollers 55 which are lubricated by passages 104, 102, the latter passage opening to a cavity 115, via opening 114, for receiving the end 116 of a grease gun 118. The pin 78 in which the lubricant passages are provided is located by locking rings 86 forced into grooves 84. For the conveyance of containers C through a cooker 18, carriers 43 having pockets P, P<SP>1</SP> are attached to a pair of the chains 10 by brackets 65. In addition to motor drive to a sprocket shaft 49, shafts 51, 52 may also be driven. Rows of the containers C are loaded into carrier pockets P at a feed station F and into pockets P<SP>1</SP> at a second feed station F<SP>1</SP>. After passage through the cooker the containers are discharged at stations D, D1.
