The present invention relates to an anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical and cosmetic composition containing fumaric acid as an effective component. The composition of the present invention inhibits the activation of NF-kB and controls the expression of eotaxin-1 for preventing the agglomeration of eosinocyte which is caused by the overexpression of eotaxin-1, and preventing skin inflammation diseases caused by eosinocyte. The composition controls the expression of inflammation mediation factors generated from the activation of NF-kB and has an anti-inflammatory effect. The composition of the present invention has no cytotoxicity and causes no skin side effects, thereby being safely applied to cosmetics and pharmaceutical compositions.
