A examination device (1) for a microorganism is for measuring the amount of microorganisms in a sample solution and is provided with: a stirring and mixing means (7) that carries out stirring and mixing of the sample solution to which a sample and fluorescent staining reagent have been added in a sample container (5) formed from a material that transmits light; an excitation light source (10), which is provided with a light source that irradiates excitation light onto an irradiated surface of the sample container (5) while the sample solution (S) is stirred by the stirring and mixing means (7); a light receiving means (14) that detects light in a florescent emission due to the excitation light from the excitation light source (10) and converts the same to an electrical signal; and a control means (23) that detects the number of emissions by means of the electrical signal from the light receiving means (14) and calculates the amount of microorganisms contained in the sample in the sample container (5) from that number of emissions.
