Methods and apparatus are described. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) generates a piggybacked acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (PAN) field and a PAN check sequence (PCS) from the PAN field. The WTRU masks the PCS with a temporary flow identity (TFI) that includes a specific sequence of a plurality of bit values that represents information other than an identification of a particular TBF. The WTRU transmits data that includes the PAN field and the masked PCS.
