Bonding two surfaces together using a metallic or nonmetallic solder with temperature-dependent optical properties such that its absorption constant decreases on heating comprises applying the solder to at least one of the surfaces, irradiating the solder with electromagnetic radiation to melt the solder and wet the surfaces, and solidifying the solder by cooling. Independent claims are also included for: (1) solder for bonding two surfaces together, with reversibly or irreversibly temperature-dependent optical properties; (2) system for controlling a bonding process as above; (3) apparatus for bonding two surfaces together in a human or animal body, comprising a control system as above and a light source for irradiating the solder with electromagnetic radiation. |
