The plastics can be worked into a wide range of forms and used for numerous purposes. The deactivating substance is used in the proportion 0.001-1 pbw. per 100 pbw. polymer and is made into a soln. in which the polymer is soaked, the solvent being later removed. The deactivator can be 1 or more of the following: (a) a dihydrocarbyl sulphide, with straight-chain saturated alkyl residues (C no. is 7-20) (preferably dihexadecyl monosulphide) (b) a complex of a B halide and a PH3 derivative (preferably of BF3 and triphenyl PH3) (c) an arenediazonium salt of a complex F-acid (preferably p-Cl-benzene diazonium hexa-fluorophosphate) (d) a tropylium salt of an inorganic acid (preferably of tetrahalo-boric acid) or an inorganic ammonium salt (e) an alpha- or beta-, aryl- or allyl-substituted alkyl halide. The polymers are homo or copolymers of 1 or more beta-lactones of general formula: (in which R1, R2, R3, R4 are the same or different radicals, and may be H or hydrocarbon residues, possibly halo-substituted). Specially mentioned is the lactone in which R1 is R2 is H and the group of alpha, alpha-dialkyl-beta-propiolactones in which each alkyl group has no more than 4C atoms.
|
