<p>Low boiling hydrocarbons e.g. CH4, C2H6 or C2H4 are extracted from mixed hydrocarbons vapour contg. one or more hydrocarbons with higher boiling points by (a) introducing the feed into a compressor at an admission pressure of 17.5 kg/cm2, (b) compressing the feed in the compressor, (c) cooling the compressed charge to liquefy at least a part of the highest boiling hydrocarbons, (d) passing the liquefied hydrocarbons to an extraction zone, (e) passing the hydrocarbon vapour separated from the liquefied hydrocarbons into an expansion motor, for expanding the vapour at a pressure below 50% of the admission pressure to the motor, and for producing energy, at least a part of this energy being used to operate the compressor, (f) passing at least a part of the expanded vapour to a heat exchanger in the extraction zone, and (g) subjecting the hydrocarbons in the extraction zone to the separation of the hydrocarbon component with the lowest boiling point.</p> |
