Use of anionic sulfonate surfactants to reduce the discoloration of plastic dishes in an automatic dishwashing machine, is claimed. An independent claim is included for reducing the discoloration of plastic dishes in an automatic dishwashing machine, comprising dosing a dishwashing detergent containing anionic sulfonate surfactants during the dishwashing operation in an interior of the dishwashing machine before starting the machine.
