<p>A filter media is described that employs multicomponent fiber material to form the filter media. The multicomponent fiber material is composed of two or more materials at least one of which is soluable in the application fluid that flows through and is filtered by the filter media to release additive(s) in a controlled manner into the application fluid. The additive(s) releases slowly throughout the filter application life.</p>
