A downlighter or uplighter light source

A downlighter / uplighter light source which comprises one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) 9 and an aspheric lens 7 arranged to focus the light emitted from the LED(s). The lens is surrounded by an annular lip 8 and its rear surface is substantially planar and is translucent. The light source is cooled by a heat sink which comprises a plurality of fins 12. The light source further comprises a bezel to facilitate the recessing of the unit.
