The application relates to the use of an "intermediary communication device" between a communication device and an access point in a wireless communication network. The communication device can directly connect to the access point but the use of an intermediary might provide certain advantages, such as better signal strength, higher throughput or lower battery consumption. Therefore, the application proposes to monitor the parameters, such as signal strength, bandwidth or battery level, which can be evaluated to determine when either a direct (116a2 -> 110b) or an indirect (116a2 -> 116a -> 110b) connection shall be used. Whenever the parameter fulfils a trigger condition, a connection to the access point (110b) is established through the intermediate communication device (116a). In the embodiments, the communication device (116a2), the intermediary communication device (116a) and the access point (110b) belong to a Wi-Fi network (118). The communication device (116a2) might be a tablet computing device which is tethered to the intermediate communication device (116a) in the form of a cellular phone. |
