The unit (1) has an identifying arrangement for identifying a feature of a hand-held medical device (27). The arrangement emits a signal based on the identified feature, where the unit is received in or at the medical device in a disengageable manner. An adapting device adapts the unit to the medical device or associates the unit with the medical device based on the signal or the identified feature. An activating or deactivating device activates or deactivates a function at the medical device based on the signal. A base section is provided with a housing (5) and a lower cover (7). The signal is pressure signal, an optical signal e.g. light beam, a capacitive signal, electrical signal or a magnetic signal. An independent claim is also included for a medical hand-held device.
