PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more safely perform safety measures in a so-called triangle section of the intersection portion of a moving handrail and a ceiling of a building in an escalator system. SOLUTION: A warning plate for an escalator includes a light guide plate which is an alerting plate arranged in the intersection of a moving handrail 17 and the ceiling 15 of the building and conducts surface emission by emitting light incident from an end face at one side inside a surface, and a warning part 40 arranged on an end face at one side of the light guide plate and inputting light to the light guide plate when a passenger coming closer to the light guide plate is detected. The warning part 40 includes a detection part detecting the passenger coming closer to the light guide plate and a light source inputting light from the end surface at one side of the light guide plate and diffusing the light inside the surface for the surface emission when the passenger is detected by the detection part.
