A double-walled reaction vessel, or autoclave, through the inner wall of which thermal energy is exchanged with e.g. liquid medium flowing in cavity, has a pressure resistant outer wall, attached at regular intervals by spot welding (e.g. using inert gas) through a thin inner wall. Studs are interposed regularly between the welds, to provide support for inner wall against vessel pressure. Heat exchange medium is introduced to cavity at base, distributed around walls by radial fins. Vessel is easy to construct and overall heat transfer coeff. is enhanced by even distribution, turbulence due to studs and welds, and thinness of inner wall.
|
