PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic steering system for a ship capable of reducing circular arc strain of an orbital sea route.SOLUTION: The automatic steering system comprises a designated turning angular velocity arithmetic operation part for determining designated turning angular velocity rfor executing turning of a turning radius R from a speed component uin the reference azimuth direction composed of a reference azimuth direction component of a vessel speed and a reference azimuth direction component of a tidal current converted into coordinates by a tidal current coordinate converting part. The designated turning angular velocity arithmetic operation part updates the designated turning angular velocity ron the basis of a change in the speed component uin the reference azimuth direction, and the updating is executed when at least the speed component uin the reference azimuth direction is changed by a speed threshold value &Dgr;uby being compared with a speed component uin the last time updating and when the speed component uin the reference azimuth direction indicates an extreme value. |
