The friction element (2) has annular friction surface having first zigzag or wavy grooves which are formed between inner and outer deflection points. Second zigzag or wavy groove extending between inner and outer deflection points, is formed outside first grooves in radial direction (8). A flow connection is formed between inner edge (36) of friction surface and first grooves, between both grooves and between outer edge (38) of friction surface and second groove. The connecting grooves (72) are formed between grooves to achieve fluid communication between the grooves.
