The invention relates to a control unit for gas turbines which, in order to avoid the typical overshoot in the case of rapid and large changes of speed, brings about an asymptotic adjustment of the actual speed to the new speed demanded in that instead of the new set speed actually predetermined it initially sets a substitute set value, which reduces the speed differential actually demanded and then adjusts the said substitute set value to the actual new set value according to an iterative algorithm.
