A sliding compound mitre saw has a circular table 4 rotatably mounted on a base 2, a bevel support being mounted to a rear of the saw and pivotally and slidingly supporting a saw assembly including a motor and a blade, an arm 6 being attached to the table and extending forward of the base through a recess, being angularly moveable in the recess to rotate the table and having a support 210 attached to the underside of the arm which, when the saw is placed on a flat work surface, is located above the work surface by a distance N, preferably by 4mm. The support may be L-shaped comprising a vertical plate 214 and horizontal plate 216. The arm may be long enough that even in an extreme angular position the support is in front of the base (Figure 11). Thus when the saw assembly is in its most extended position the support will prevent the saw from tipping forward more than a minimal amount, without preventing free rotation of the arm and table when the saw assembly is in a rest position. Also disclosed, a cutting guide system, dust removal, impact absorbing drive belts and a compound fan and drive mechanism. |
