The present disclosure provides for method and apparatus for controlling an application executed on an electronic device (104) dependent upon the orientation of a stylus (100). The stylus (100) includes a rotation rate sensor (202), such as a gyroscope. A signal (208), dependent on the rotation rate (204), is transmitted from the stylus and received as signal (208') by the electronic device (104). The stylus orientation (220') may be determined from the rotation rate (204) using an integration circuit (402) to determine a rotation matrix (412) that is applied to an initial orientation vector (426). The electronic device (104) may use the stylus orientation (220') to determine the handedness of a user, to control properties of a drawing application, or for other purposes. |
