<p>A ferroelectric liquid crystal composition comprising a smetic liquid crystal compound and an optically active compound and showing a quick response, and a photo-switching element prepared by using same are disclosed. Said composition comprises a compound represented by (I) and/or a compound represented by (II), as component A; and a compound represented by (III) and/or a compound represented by (IV), as component B (wherein R?1, R2, R3 and R5¿ each represents an alkyl or alkoxy group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, R?4 and R6¿ each represents an alkyl group containing 2 to 18 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, X and Y each represents -CH¿2?O-, -OCH2-, (a) or (b), m, n, k and l each represents an integer of 1 or 2, and * represents an asymmetric carbon atom, with A/B being not more than 1.5. A photo-switching element prepared by using the composition has a quick response.</p> |
