In a process for purifying waste gases laden with noxious and/or odourous substances, in particular flue gases, car exhaust fumes or outgoing air, the waste gases are fed into an aqueous bath containing a foaming agent. Most of the waste gases are incorporated in the foam bubbles as they pass through the surface of the bath and are transported from the surface of the bath together with the foam bubbles. During transport of the foam bubbles, noxious and odorous substances in the waste gases are absorbed onto the inside of the bubble skin. The foam bubbles are then liquefied, releasing the purified waste gases, and the noxious and odorous substances are trapped, together with the liquid from the foam bubbles, possibly concentrated and disposed of. To stabilize the foam, lignin derivatives such as lignin sulfonate are added to the foaming agents, which consist, for example, of anionic tensides. |
