Manual, intraocular lens comminutor: the application relates to a manually operated squeezing/tearing forceps for the intraocular comminution of the lens through a small opening. This device can supplement or replace a "lensmachine" excited with ultrasound in ophthalmological surgery. The principle is characterised in that a pair of metal or plastic forceps which opens in a forward movement grips the lentiform nucleus, squeezes it during the backward movement and severs it "in tearing fashion" with the last part of the backward movement. This can be done through an opening of only 3 mm on the eye. The lens residues can be aspirated through the guide pipe of the forceps or in a separate operation thereafter.
