Dispensing device, system and method

A dispensing device 15 for dispensing pumpable and/or flowable substances. The dispensing device 15 includes a tubular diaphragm 33, said diaphragm 33 having an input end for receiving the substance and an output end from which the substance is expelled. An actuator means 37 is arranged to apply an adjustable load to the diaphragm 33 to expel from the tubular diaphragm (33) at least a portion of the substance contained therein. A control system 31 is arranged to receive signals from a sensor device 27 arranged to generate an output signal that is indicative of the mass of substance dispensed to the downstream apparatus, and to control the load applied to the tubular diaphragm 33 by the actuator means 37 according to the signals received from the sensor device 27. The device is suitable for accurately dispensing heterogeneous substances such as aerated liquids or pastes.
