FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: starting ethanol, which is fed to the synthesis step, contains acetaldehyde and/or water in amount of not more than 50 wt %; the catalyst further contains a calcium and/or strontium compound, with the following content of components, with respect to oxides, wt %: magnesium oxide 47-76, aluminium oxide 4.5-12.5, zinc oxide 0.1-1.5, calcium oxide and/or strontium oxide 1.5-7.5, silicon dioxide - the balance.
