Provided are: a crucible consisting of carbon, the crucible having a structure in which a straight body section and a receiving tray section are separated in order to prevent the crucible from breaking, the crucible being manufactured at low manufacturing cost and capable of being delivered within a short delivery time; and a method for manufacturing the crucible. A crucible (1) consisting of carbon comprises a straight body section (9) and a receiving tray section (10), which are divided in the vertical direction. The straight body section (9) consists of a carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite material, and the receiving tray section (10) consists of graphite. The upper end surface of the receiving tray section (9) is provided with a stepped section (11) in which the outer peripheral side is higher than the inner peripheral side. The straight body section (9) is fitted to the stepped section (11), and in this fitted state, a gap (A) is provided between the inner peripheral surface (11a) of the stepped section (11) and the outer peripheral surface (9a) of the straight body section (9). The gap (A) is preferably in the range of 0.1% to 1.0% of the diameter of the straight body section.
