The furniture has a coupling rod (6) connected to a spring unit (7) i.e. gas-filled support, such that restoring force of the spring unit works against displacement for a couch position. A backrest (2) is connected with a toggle lever (13) through a control lever (12) such that pivoting of the backrest is reacted with respect to the seat (3) in an adjustment of the toggle lever. The toggle lever is connected to the seat and the spring unit such that the spring unit is compressed against the restoring force upon adjustment of a seat from a sitting position into a reclining position of the seat.
