<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable optical phase unit that can continuously vary an optical phase and perform high-speed control, and is hardly influenced by an environmental condition and easily adapted to a polarization non-dependent type, a free space type, and an optical fiber type. <P>SOLUTION: A first polarizer 41 is arranged which performs polarization demultiplexing of input light from before into first and second mutually orthogonal linear polarized light beams, and on first and second optical paths up to projection of the first and second linear polarized light beams as output light, first and second 1/4 wavelength plates (11, 12) which convert the input linear polarized light beams into circular polarized light beams, a Faraday rotator 20 which rotates planes of polarization of input circular polarized light beams, third and fourth 1/4 wavelength plates (13, 14) which convert the circular polarized light beams input thereto respectively into linear polarized light beams, and output them and a second polarizer 42 which performs polarization multiplexing of the two input mutually orthogonal linear polarized light beams and emits output light are arranged in order, the phase of the output light being varied according to the angle of rotation of the Faraday rotator. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
