A hydraulic system 202 including hydraulic fluid, a hydraulic machine 242A,242B for pressuring the hydraulic fluid, a hydraulic circuit for delivering the hydraulic fluid to a hydraulic actuator 203B, the hydraulic machine 242A,242B being configured to receive the hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic actuator 203B and a kinetic energy storage device 250 for storing energy in a kinetic form, the kinetic energy storage device 250 being operably coupled to the hydraulic machine 242A,242B, the system 202 being configured such that the hydraulic machine 242A,242B is operable to transfer energy from the hydraulic fluid received from the hydraulic actuator 203B to the kinetic energy storage device 250. The actuator 203B may be a linear actuator or a rotary actuator; the kinetic energy storage 250 device may be a flywheel. |
