A movable robot is disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention may precisely detect ambient obstacles by using characteristic properties. The embodiments of the present invention radiates optical patterns of an asymmetric cross shape; detects the existence of obstacles; and measures a width and a height of obstacles by using the pattern images of the region irradiated with the optical patterns.
