Lamp-failure alarms.-In an alarm device of the sagging-wine type, the wire 1 is enclosed in a perforated tube 10, and is made fast at one end to an adjusting screw 6, and at the other end to the free end of a leaf spring 11 secured to the tube. The tube is suspended by springs 4 to damp vibration. When the wire 1 is cold, it holds the end of the spring in contact with a screw 9 in an alarm circuit. When the wire is heated and expands, it allows the spring to move in a direction perpendicular to the wire, breaking the contact A washer 12 forms a dust-proof enclosure for the contacts. In a modification, Fig. 7, adapted for signalling that a lighted lamp has become extinguished, the tube 2 has a heatinsulating lining, as of asbestos, and an aperture 16 closed by a pane of mica. The aperture is arranged above the lamp 17. While the latter is alight, the wire 1 is expanded, and the alarm circuit is closed at 9, 11. The electromagnet 20 then attracts its armature 21, opening the alarm lamp circuit 22, 23. If the lamp is extinguished, the wire contracts and breaks contact at. 9, 11, the armature 21 is released, and the lamp 23 is lighted. The alarm circuit may include a bell, an indicator 19, and a hand-switch 25. Alternatively, the wire may be arranged to close the circuit when the lamp is extinguished. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a construction, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), wherein the wire 1 is enclosed in a casing 2 formed of perforated angle irons, is made fast at both ends, and passes over the hooked end 8 of contact spring 7 normally held by the wire in contact with a contact 9 in an alarm circuit. Sagging of the wire opens the circuit. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
