A liquid crystal display device capable of reliably transmitting signals with reduced coupling phenomenon and improving the quality of images is disclosed. The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including a first area, a second area, and a third area; a circuit structure placed in the first area of the first substrate; a first electrode electrically connected to the circuit structure; a second substrate facing the first substrate; a black matrix placed on the second substrate of the first and second areas; a color filter placed on the second substrate of the third area; a second electrode placed on the black matrix and the color filter; and a liquid crystal structure between the first and second substrates. As the black matrix includes a stepwise part in the first area, the distance between the circuit structure and the second electrode can be increased.
