The invention relates to a method for extracting at least one usable data item flowing on a communication bus of a machine, said at least one usable data item being representative of a parameter of the machine, characterised in that the method includes the following steps: receiving (21) a configuration file including information relating to the coding of said at least one usable data item to be extracted; analysing (22) the information contained in the configuration file in order to enable the identification of said at least one usable data item to be extracted from all the data flowing on the communication bus; collecting (23) said identified at least one usable data item; transmitting (24) said collected at least one usable data item to a server (3) that is remote from the machine.
