PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of conventional information processing apparatuses being unable to easily obtain appropriate information through searches using the names of places. SOLUTION: An information processing apparatus includes: an areal feature word storage unit 101 in which areal feature words, i.e., character strings highly related to an area, and region information, i.e., information indicating regions including areas highly related to the areal feature words, are stored in association; a position information acquisition unit 102 which acquires position information, i.e., information indicating positions; an areal feature word acquisition unit 103 which acquires from the areal feature word storage unit 101 areal feature words corresponding to the region information indicating regions containing positions indicated by the position information acquired by the position information acquisition unit 102; and an areal feature word output unit 104 which outputs the areal feature words acquired by the areal feature word acquisition unit 103.
