<p>An apparatus 1 for winding sheet material, comprising, a turret 3 holding a reel onto which a sheet material 2 is wound to form a roll 25; a wrap roller 11 which is movable relative to the reel to deflect a running web between the wrap roller 11 and the reel and then around a portion of the reel; a cutter 5 for cutting the web in a transfer position at a pre-determined point downstream of the reel and inserting the cut end of the web between the reel and the wrap roller. The turret variably rotates, depending on the diameter of the reel, to align the cutter in the transfer position. A plurality of reels may be mounted on the turret, and each reel can be sequentially moved to the transfer position, where a first and second reel arm 51 & 53, rotatably mounted on the rotational axis of the turret are releasably engageable with the end of each reel. The reel arms are controlled to engage each reel sequentially. The second arm engages a reel onto which the running web is to be transferred and the first arm engages that reel once the running web has been transferred.</p> |
