The system has a cylinder (32) with a combustion chamber that is intended to contain a combustive oxidizer/fuel mixture. A standard spark plug (31) and a spark plug i.e. Ignition by injection of radicals type spark plug (30), are provided in the system. Each of the spark plugs comprises a part that is provided with electrodes, where the parts of the respective spark plug emerge in the combustion chamber. The electrodes of the spark plugs are provided approximately in a central zone in the combustion chamber. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an ignition system.
