The device (1) has a tubular container (2) for retaining and controlled delivery of a reagent medium (3), and a supply line (4) for supply of water. A mixing device (5) mixes the reagent medium with a preset amount of the water. A detection device (6) detects a chromogenic chemical reaction caused by mixing of the reagent medium and water substances. The container is pressurized with pressure of a partially pressurized water system for the controlled delivery of the reagent medium. The reagent medium is formed for detection of water hardness, pH value, oxidants, irons and manganese. The oxidants are chlorine, bromine and chlorine dioxide. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring water quality of a pressurized water system.
