A method and an apparatus for detecting a null interval of a terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast are provided to implement initialization without a time delay by not applying an AGC(Automatic Gain Control) in detecting a null interval. An RF(Radio Frequency) unit(200) receives a broadcast signal of a terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast by applying a gain control value to the broadcast signal. An AGC unit(220) controls the gain control value by monitoring a signal strength of the broadcast signal, and transfers the gain control value to be applied for the broadcast signal to the RF unit. When a null interval is intended to be detected, a controller(260) instructs the AGC unit to apply a certain fixed gain control value to the received broadcast signal, and detects a null interval without data of the broadcast signal to which the fixed gain control value has been applied. |
