PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize sn automatic focus technology capable of further accurately adjusting a focus.SOLUTION: An imaging device includes: an imaging element for imaging a subject image formed by a photographing lens; pupil dividing means for restricting a light flux incident to pixels on the imaging element in a specified pupil area of the photographing lens; signal generating means for generating an output signal corresponding to a pixel group, by weighting and adding the output of each pixel configuring the pixel group, to the pixel group provided on the imaging element receiving the light flux passing through the photographing lens through the pupil dividing means, and an electric signal obtained from the pixel group; calculating means for calculating a contrast evaluation value of the subject image on the basis of the output signal generated by the signal generating means; and focus adjusting means for adjusting the focus of the photographing lens on the basis of the contrast evaluation value calculated by the calculating means.
