PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide negative electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which has high capacity, and a high capacity battery using the material.SOLUTION: A high-capacity battery uses negative electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery that is a compound containing three layers of a minute Si phase, SiO, and a carbonaceous substance. The negative electrode active material can be manufactured by burning SiOx and carbonaceous substance material.
